Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces expanding in power within the city.

Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

Episode 3 ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear mismatched, but the actions of the latest installment show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

First, the party understands precisely where to head next after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his own means, invading the secret base, assaulting the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.

The antagonist then paid off his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, north of the urban center, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, desires retribution.
  • Kattigan knows the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous place.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their position as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the group enter locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • Thimble and The character are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The target is marked for death by the clan.

This leaves them little choice but to travel to the northern region in quest for Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

According to episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Explorers and Schemers groups.

Audiences can look forward to learning which characters will be where in the story’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
